Disney+ and Hulu have scheduled a November premiere for The Remarried Empress, a 10-part Korean drama series adapted from the Naver Webtoon of the same name. According to Variety, the source material has accumulated nearly three billion views to date.

The narrative centers on Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu of the Eastern Kingdom. Their marriage dissolves after Sovieshu begins pursuing Rashta, an escaped slave. In response to the breakdown of their union, Navier agrees to a divorce provided she is permitted to marry Crown Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom. This arrangement initiates a conflict over love and power that threatens the stability of the kingdom as Navier attempts to maintain her social standing.

Cast and Production Details

Shin Mina portrays Empress Navier, while Ju Jihoon plays Emperor Sovieshu. Lee Jongsuk is cast as Crown Prince Heinrey, and Lee Seyoung plays Rashta. The series was adapted for television by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol under the direction of Cho Suwon. Variety reports that the production team utilized multiple locations, including European palaces and various elaborate sets, to establish a lavish historical aesthetic.

Premiere Schedule and Distribution

The show is slated for its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in October. According to Deadline, the festival runs from October 6 to 15, where The Remarried Empress will be featured in the “On Screen” section. This screening will include three of the series’ ten episodes prior to their full streaming release.

Disney+ and Hulu will begin their distribution on November 4 by releasing a four-episode premiere. Following this initial drop, two additional episodes will be released every Wednesday until the final episode airs on November 25, according to Variety and Deadline.

Market Context

The Remarried Empress joins Disney+‘s growing roster of Korean Originals. This collection currently includes Made In Korea, which follows a South Korean CIA agent navigating underworld business dealings; Tempest, a drama depicting a global conspiracy threatening the Korean Peninsula; and Moving, an action series where special agents safeguard children with superpowers.

The reports indicate that Disney+ is employing a staggered release strategy to maximize viewer engagement over a three-week period in November. By utilizing a high-profile festival debut followed by a weekly cadence of two episodes, the platform seeks to build prestige and sustained viewership for the property. Readers should watch for how this production performs relative to the other Korean Originals currently dominating Disney+‘s international slate.
